Faceless Generation

The epidemic of incarceration in the United States has left 2.7 million children without access to stable parenting because one or both parent(s) is behind bars. These children face some of life’s harshest challenges, including poverty, violence and the stigma of family instability. This experience places children at a higher risk for mental health issues, limited opportunities for education, alcohol and drugs abuse and aggressive behavior. The mission of EKWIP is to rescue children from underachievement and intergenerational incarceration by improving the opportunities, skills and resources that allow them to see what the world has to offer, in ways that they can see themselves in it and the extent to which they want to succeed. We work in partnership with both public and private sector organizations in communities across the US to deliver positive outcomes for young people who need support. About EKWIP

An Everyday Difference

Children with incarcerated parents face tough challenges. Without intervention, they have a 70 percent chance of ending up behind bars. EKWIP is working to change this one child at a time. As a mentor, you can be a positive role model in the life of one of these children. Mentors inspire children to pursue education and develop their interests in music, art, or sports. Most importantly, mentors provide compassion and companionship to children who are often in high-risk situations. Mentoring is a critical strategy for improving the lives of young people, boosting their academic achievement, social development, and chances for long-term success. By spending a few hours a month with a child, you can change a life forever. Become A Mentor
